Seating rule examples

Example wedding seating rules that work well with AI: keeping people apart or together, kids with parents, near the dance floor, at the head table.

Write one idea per rule. These are rules that work well, grouped by what they do.

Keep people apart

  • Keep Jake Miller and Sophie Turner apart
  • Don't seat Uncle Robert with the Morgans
  • Tom and his ex-wife at different tables

Keep people together

  • Grace, Lily and Ava at the same table
  • Keep each family together
  • University friends together
  • Keep each group together

Children and families

  • Kids next to parents
  • Put all children at table 12

Near or away from places in the room

These need the area on your floor plan. See Dance floor, bar and other areas.

  • Young friends near the dance floor
  • Grandparents away from the speakers
  • Anna near the entrance

At a specific table

  • Bride's parents at the head table
  • Emily and Jack at table 3
  • The Carter family at table Lisbon

Tips for rules that work

  • Use names as they are in your guest list. A unique first name is enough.
  • Notes help: a guest with the note "grandmother" is found by a rule about "grandma".
  • Mark children with the Child box, so rules about kids know who they are.
  • If a rule is marked in orange, read the reason under it. See When a rule cannot be used.
